About Us

The Politics and Inequality Research Unit at the University of Tsukuba, taking over from the Comparative and International Japan Research Unit (CAJS), aims to investigate changes in political structures and the transformation of politics-society relationships in Japan and around the world through systematic research and comparison from a social science perspective. In particular, we focus on the relationship between politics and inequality, and explore the differences in the mechanisms of how politics reduces or increases socioeconomic inequality among countries. More concretely, our joint research focuses on the changing views of political elites and voters on equality, the structure and transformation of the relationship between civil society and politics, and the inequality of representation in political participation and policy response.
