【Research Project on Political Inequality of Opportunity and Outcome】

Recently, growing economic and social inequalities have been recognized as a problem, and political solutions to these problems are being demanded. However, if there are disparities in political participation and policy responses, there is a risk that these inequalities will be further increased. Therefore, this research aims to understand the actual situation of political inequality in terms of political participation and policy response, and to elucidate the mechanism of political inequality by relating it to economic and social inequality. Specifically, we will address the following issues.

1) To understand the inequality of political participation by social attributes such as income, occupation, education, gender, age, and ethnicity based on a large-scale questionnaire survey of individuals and groups.

2) To understand the inequality in policy responses by matching the policy preferences of individuals and groups with the policies that have actually been formulated.

3) To understand the process of linking participation and response by clarifying the transition of issues and interrelationships among actors in specific policy processes. Based on the above, we will construct a generative model of political inequality that clarifies the mechanisms that mediate between participation and response.
